From Math With Jo

How do we make math finally make sense?

We find the missing foundations, explain difficult ideas in ways that click, and help students solve the next problem independently.

Worked ProblemAlgebra II
Solve: 2x² − 5x − 3 = 0
Factor → (2x + 1)(x − 3) = 0
x = −½  or  x = 3
Pattern: ax² + bx + c → factor by grouping
Recognizing common quadratic patterns helps students choose an efficient solution method.
Our Math Coaching Process

Understanding comes before memorizing another shortcut.

We do not rush to the answer. We find the missing foundation, explain the idea in a way that clicks, and have the student teach it back until they can solve the next problem alone.

  1. Step 1

    Find the missing foundation

Identify the earlier concept or reasoning gap making the current work unnecessarily difficult.

  2. Step 2

Explain it more than one way

Use visual, numerical, conceptual, and step-by-step explanations based on how the student understands the problem.

  3. Step 3

Have the student teach it back

Use the Feynman technique to reveal whether the student genuinely understands the reasoning.

  4. Step 4

    Practice so it sticks

Use targeted practice and spaced review so the reasoning holds up weeks later, not just today.

  5. Step 5

    Solve independently

Gradually remove support until the student can approach unfamiliar problems without being led through every step.

What Students Say About Learning With Us

Their systems helped me become a much more consistent learner. They have great teachers who teach you how to learn, not just the material itself.
